As a research institute of Russia leading in Applied Mathematics and Computer Sciences,
the Computing Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences (CCRAS, for short) ought not drop
out the most valuable issues of Life. Hence, the CCRAS has a Department on Mathematical
Modeling in Ecology and Medicine (DMMEM, for short).
The DMMEM had accumulated a broad experience in planning and implementing various joint
projects on research and development on environmental and medical issues in cooperation with
the other subdepartments of the CCRAS, other institutions here, in Russia, and abroad.
The Subdepartment had been established in 1978 under Prof. Yuri M. Svirezhev, D.Sc. (Physics
& Math). The Department as a research body, moved from the Institute of Biomedical Problems
of the USSR Health Ministry to the former Computing Centre of the USSR Academy of Sciences
(CCRAS, nowadays).
Due to its origin, the Department had inherited a broad interest in the Life
Sciences, and had been involved in a series of related projects.
